Caturday musings
In which Fergus addresses certain rumors…
As I’m sure every experienced human-owning cat knows, our people can be quite challenging. For instance, my mom recently saw fit to spread the rumor that I routinely follow her around, first thing in the morning, and meow at her while she makes breakfast, and that in fact, I am so persistent in getting underfoot that she regularly has to postpone her meal and pay attention to me.
This behavior sounds entirely absurd. I ask you, what self-respecting tough street cat would do such a thing? Honestly, Mom, I am an independent feline. I can stand on my own four paws, thank you very much.
She also has the idea that when she practices the piano, I see it as the perfect opportunity to demand even more attention. After all, she’s sitting down in one place for extended periods. (If I were to admit anything, which of course I don’t, I’d ask why anyone should let a perfectly good lap go to waste.) In truth, though, while I enjoy piano music, Mom’s practicing can distract her from things like mealtimes, treat-giving, etc. Someone has to keep her in line.
In short, though she often says I’m a “pushy cat” and a “mama’s boy,” the fact is that I’m doing a tough and important job. Someone has to make sure she stays organized and doesn’t forget the most important two meals of the day (and assorted snacks). It’s never easy, but my siblings and I do our best.
Solidarity to all my fellow cats who run similarly difficult households. We will prevail! With purrs from my house to yours,
Fergus
